Speend vs NOWPayments

Both publish a flat entry rate and both cover a wide asset list. Speend charges half as much for same-currency settlement and states that the payer opens no account. NOWPayments is non custodial and publishes the longer list. The choice turns on custody against payer friction.

Каждая строка — один критерий на общей шкале 0–10. Расстояние между точками — расхождение; там, где они совпадают, провайдеры оценены одинаково. Веса опубликованы на странице методики и меняют этот порядок, когда вы меняете их.

Two flat rates, and one is half the other#

Speend publishes 0.5% for same-currency settlement against a flat 1% at NOWPayments. Both apply from the first transaction rather than at a volume threshold, which makes this one of the few directly comparable price pairs in the index.

The caveat is symmetric and worth stating: neither publishes a conversion figure, so both numbers are floors. Speend does state that network costs pass through at blockchain cost rather than marked up, which is a disclosure NOWPayments does not make either way.

Payer friction, which only one of them addresses#

Speend documents a merchant-side model: the business passes KYB and the payer opens nothing and faces no identity check. That is the single largest cause of abandoned crypto checkouts, and a provider naming it explicitly is unusual.

NOWPayments publishes nothing about verification on either side. Being non custodial implies less to verify structurally, and implication is not documentation. If payer experience is the reason you are accepting crypto at all, one of these providers has answered the question and the other has not.

Custody runs the other way#

NOWPayments is documented non custodial: settlement reaches a wallet you control and the provider's solvency never becomes your problem. Speend is custodial, holding funds between receipt and settlement.

That is the one criterion where being wrong cannot be undone, which is why the custody guide argues for settling it first. It also explains why Speend can offer conversion and an auto-converter while NOWPayments cannot.

Coverage, where the gap is smaller than it looks#

NOWPayments publishes 350 or more assets and Speend 300 or more. Both are far beyond what a typical merchant meets, and the difference between them is unlikely to cost anybody a sale.

Where they differ usefully is disclosure of networks. Neither enumerates fully, and for a stablecoin-heavy business the network list matters more than the asset count, as the network guide sets out.

Reading this pair by business type#

A merchant whose checkout conversion matters, and who is comfortable with a custodial provider, should take Speend. The published rate is lower and the payer-side answer is the one most providers avoid giving.

A merchant who intends to hold crypto and wants the counterparty risk removed should take NOWPayments and accept the higher rate as the price of custody. That trade is explicit and reasonable in both directions.

A business in a contested vertical should ask Speend directly, since it names iGaming, forex and high-risk among the verticals it serves, which NOWPayments does not.

What to send both of them#

The conversion spread, from both, since neither publishes it and the two headline rates are otherwise directly comparable. Ask Speend specifically what the converting rate is, since the 0.5% covers same-currency settlement.

Ask NOWPayments what merchant verification requires and how long it takes. Speend has already answered that publicly; NOWPayments has not, and it is the field with the lowest disclosure rate across this whole index.

Then test underpayment on both. Neither documents the handling and both will meet it inside your first hundred orders.

What this comparison leaves open#

Fiat settlement, which neither documents clearly. Speend mentions an auto-converter to a stablecoin rather than a bank payout; NOWPayments cannot offer one at all. A business that needs money in a bank should treat both cards as incomplete on the point that matters most to it.

Both cards carry a checked date. Rates in this category move without announcement, so confirm at source before signing.

Custody splits this pair#

NOWPayments is non-custodial by default, so settlement reaches a wallet the merchant controls. Speend is custodial, holding balances until withdrawal.

Every other line here can be renegotiated; this one cannot be undone after a provider failure. The custody guide covers the key-management burden that arrives with the non-custodial side, which is a real cost rather than a free upgrade.

Both publish broad coverage, neither enumerates it#

Three hundred assets against three hundred and fifty, which is close enough that the difference should not decide anything. Networks differ more usefully: Speend names TON, NOWPayments names Solana and Polygon.

Ask both for the specific tokens on the specific chains you receive on. A count is a claim and the assets you actually get paid in are the only ones that matter.

Verification and the payer#

Speend publishes business verification of the merchant and states that the payer opens nothing and faces no identity check. NOWPayments publishes no verification policy at all.

Those are different kinds of silence: one card has answered the merchant question and the payer question, the other has answered neither. For planning an integration date, that gap is measured in weeks.

Fee shape, once you look past the headline#

Half a percent against one percent looks like a factor of two and is not, because both cards leave conversion unpublished and one of them charges nothing beyond processing in the same-currency case.

A merchant settling in the currency they were paid in sees the headline gap directly. One converting everything sees a comparison neither provider has given them enough to make, and should ask both before assuming.

Вопросы, которые задают мерчанты

Which is cheaper, Speend or NOWPayments?

Speend on the published figure, at 0.5% for same-currency settlement against a flat 1%. Both are floors, since neither publishes a conversion spread, and Speend's rate rises to a reported 1% when conversion is applied.

Does either check the identity of the person paying?

Speend states that the payer opens no account and faces no identity check. NOWPayments publishes nothing either way, so it has to be asked.
